How to Relax and Be Confident

Public speaking can be fun! All it takes is a little relaxing and a bit of confidence. The following public speaking tips can help you relax, be calm and make a good speech into an unforgettable speech.

Relaxation:

Following every public speaking tip in every public speaking book or course will not help you deliver a fantastic speech… that is, unless you learn to relax. Relaxation is the most important aspect of public speaking success.

Get rid of any fears about the perfection of your speech. Your speech is not without faults and never will be. No speech is without fault. Don't think your speech must change the world forever.

The most obvious way to relax is to forget about your public speaking engagement and your speech. Do what you have to do to get ready and then forget about it. Write your speech, edit it, make changes, practice it, memorize it as well as you have to and then forget about it until the time comes to speak.

Make some time before you speak to do something fun. Pick an activity you enjoy. If you are relaxed and in a good frame of mind, your relaxed and happy spirit will flow over into your public speaking presentation. Plan something to do after your speech as a reward.

Consider how you want to feel after your speech is finished. Do you want to feel like you did not perform your best because you were nervous and worried? Do you want to feel fantastic because you went out there and gave it all you had despite being terrified?

Confidence:

Be confident and do not allow your fear to show. If you do not feel confident, pretend that you are confident. Walk on stage with your head up and smile at your audience.

Smiles are powerful. When you smile at your audience, they will smile at you in return. All this smiling will drive up your confidence. Smiling provides positive energy in the room. It will make your audience confident in you as a speaker and you confident in delivering your speech.

Remind yourself that your audience wants you to do a good job. They want to learn and be entertained or uplifted by you.

Remember that you are in charge. You are the one with the knowledge, the speaker, and the audience is watching and reacting to you. Let the knowledge of your power at that moment take over, increasing your public speaking confidence and reducing your public speaking fear.
